2013 Resolutions, According to 8 Guys

by Gena Kaufman, Glamour

OK ladies, we've all made our resolutions to lose weight and find a boyfriend in 2013 because we're total clichés, right? Wrong! I mean, except that I do kind of want to do both those things but I have more important resolutions to make like to stop waiting until I can write my name in the dust to clean and to finally watch Downton Abbey so I'm not left out of conversations anymore.

Aaanyway, the point is that women make a lot of different resolutions and so do men. To give you a glimpse into the mind of men in 2013, we asked a few guys to share their goals for the upcoming year. Here they are:

"My resolution this year is to better myself:
- Save $10,000
- Quit biting my fingernails
- Complete a full marathon (this may be the toughest one, haha!)
- Read at least one book a month
- Visit my family at least 3 times this year
- Take a single vacation to a destination I've never been
- Get engaged (this might actually be the toughest since I'm currently single, lol)
- Begin to write: share my thoughts, ideas and memories
- See the sun rise on the east coast of Florida and the sunset on the West coast of Florida all in one day." -Mike

"Mine is to look forward and not back. Get rid of all the negativity and focus on the positive. Meditate more regularly. Also, make a lot of money...lol." -Justin

"1. Learn more about fine woodworking
2. Get into a regular yoga practice.
3. Bike from Mexico to Canada" -Sean

"Saving money, exercise, being nice, trying new things, meeting new people, recycling…lots of things, dude." -Brian

"Automate and streamline my life as much as possible leaving me with more time to lay on my couch in my boxers drinking beer. Also to purchase electric ab stimulation belt to counter act the effects of the above goal." -Justyn

"Well, lose weight, duh, quit drinking, find a job that I actually care about, be a better person. I don't know, really all the normal ones that people say." -Josh

"I spend a lot of time at work and it takes energy to stay positive at the daily grind. This year for new years I'm going to take some advice from this book I just read, "The Happiness Advantage" from this positive psychologist from Harvard. Here's to a HAPPY new year!" -Joe

"1.) Resolve to continue with my 2000 resolution to not make new year's resolutions
2.) Resolve to follow all the resolutions that my significant other has made for me (both public and unspoken)
3.) Drink less, but better - life's too short to drink bad alcohol & beer
4.) Create a bucket list
5.) Buy buckets from previous list and then write down several life goals on the receipt
6.) Lose the receipt
7.) Figure out unspoken resolutions my significant other has made for me / figure out why she won't talk to me
8.) Win something, anything
9.) Get the job you wanted when you were 6 - I'm going to love being a cowboy.
10.) Collect "man points" for doing manly things - yard work, home improvement
11.) Cash in "man points" - hellooooo Man Cave with a full bar, oh and sex. Definitely sex.
12.) Stop making lists." -Sam

Heh heh. Some of this guys are going to have a lot on their plates. Thanks to the men who shared. And to all of you Smitten readers, Happy New Year! I'm excited to see what 2013 brings for all of us!
