Patriotic Man Plants American Flag Atop Iconic Sandy Roller Coaster

New Jersey's iconic sunken roller coaster, which has remained in the Atlantic Ocean since the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, just got a bit more patriotic: Local man Christopher Angelo, 38, planted an American flag atop the twisted wreckage after paddling his canoe from the coast of Seaside Heights and climbing atop the the towering remains of the Jet Star coaster, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

But the Neil Armstrong-style stunt got him quickly arrested by the New Jersey State Police. It also caused quite a stir, as Seaside Heights cops and the U.S. Coast Guard joined in responding to the scene.

Angelo, whom Police Chief Thomas Boyd described in the news story as being very patriotic, was also characterized as a "daredevil" by his mother, Diane Angelo.
