How Young is Too Young for Makeup?

This week, Heidi Klum treated her daughters Lou, 2, and Leni, 8, to a trip to the Children's Museum of Arts in New York. The threesome looked adorable -- cute dresses, sandals, updos, and the exact same shade of ruby red lipstick.

Not surprisingly, the media responded with "What-was-she-thinking?" mom-bashing commentary, similar to last year, when mommy bloggers got their diaper bags in a bunch after seeing high heel-clad Suri Cruise step out with a bright pink pout.

We all think it's cute when little girls put on their mothers' pumps, makeup, and perfumes, but when should girls transition from playing dress up to actually growing up?

While makeup-caked 6-year-olds in shows like "Toddlers and Tiaras" make my stomach churn, I think Heidi's matchy lipstick with her girls is actually kind of cute. I can just imagine the girls clamoring for some of their supermodel mom's lipstick, and the excitement on their faces when Klum gave in.
