Amal Clooney Doesn't Care About Your Fashion Questions

Amal Clooney is married to George Clooney, but she actually has a job. A really important job as a lawyer, activist, and author. Today, said job brought her to court, specifically the European Court of Human Rights, as she represents Armenia – as in the country – as it appeals the outcome of previous charges brought against them by Switzerland, in 2008. This is not Judge Judy we are talking about here.

As Clooney arrived at court and entered the chambers, she was accosted by paparazzi, which, like, we get she’s famous but she’s trying to work for god’s sake! And it’s not like she works at an ice cream shop either — this is serious stuff! — so we can only imagine her annoyance at being photographed while she’s mentally preparing herself for this case. To make matters worse, a correspondent from The Telegraph deigned to ask her, “Who was she wearing?,” which so obviously doesn’t matter and I cannot think of a less appropriate question to ask a woman in her position. Amal allegedlysmiled, then responded “Ede & Ravenscoft,” purveyors of British legal dress for over 300 years.

And of course we would never in a million years ask Amal such an asinine question, but we can be thrilled at the fact that once again, she is walking the same sartorial path as our other favorite judicial fashion icon, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Amal’s minimal white shirt is a modern take on the secretary blouse, while Ginsburg favors a feminine lace scarf peaking out from under her collar. These two women are working incredible jobs, trying to make an actual difference in the world. The fact that we love the way they look while they’re doing it is a bonus, though of course they should never be subjected to fashion policing while on the job. Can’t wait to see where these two ladies’ styles will intersect again next.
