6 ways to get what you want for Christmas

As children, many of us wrote Christmas lists of all the things we hoped to find under the tree. Some of maybe even told Santa as we sat on his lap or mailed our wish lists to the North Pole. As adults we can't our fingers crossed for a sleigh full of our desired presents, but there's no reason we can't get the things we want and need from our loved ones. Trying to avoid unwrapping a box full of sock or an ugly holiday sweater? Here are six tips to getting exactly what you want.

1. Go shopping together. Browse stores or look for gifts for other people and point out an item you like. You can even mention the size you need i.e. "I love this dark green cardigan, it really would bring out my eyes! Oh they only have a few mediums left, but I can't be buying myself presents right now..." If your loved one is perceptive they'll go back to the store later on and scoop up the item for you.

2. Browse the internet in a common area. Ooh and ahh when you see something you like, and get up to go to the bathroom leaving the item on the screen for long enough for them to see what it is and where to buy it. Note: Conversely,
you can show off items you're considering buying your friend or family member and see how they react to determine if it's the right purchase.

3. Make a list of a few presents you need to buy for a few people. Then make a list of a few things you'd like for yourself. "Accidentally" leave it somewhere where a shopping buddy will find it.

4. Tell a mutual friend what you're hoping for. If your husband or boyfriend needs some help, let their buddy catch wind of what you're not-so-secretly hoping he buys for you.

5. Politely say you want something. Every year a few weeks before Christmas my mom will tell my brother and I her a small item she'd like. "If you guys need help coming up with something to buy me I could really use a..." It takes away the guess work on our part, and she can be happy with what she receives. Of course we'll get her another little surprise, too, to keep it fun.

6. Send your wish list. Santa isn't the only one who needs help! This is great for the men in your life who may not have the time or are completely clueless when shopping for a woman. Most websites have a wish list and click-to-buy function, so put a few reasonably priced things in your cart and email the list to them. This makes their lives easier, and the surprise will come from which item you receive off your list.
