'1 in a Million' Set of Identical Triplets Born

What’s more unusual than going from one to four children in a single day? Welcoming identical newborn triplets — who were conceived naturally.

That’s the exceedingly rare honor bestowed upon Jody Kinsey, 30, and husband Jase Kinsey on Dec. 5, when Jody gave birth to sons Cade, Ian, and Milo at 32 weeks via cesarean section at the Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana. “Our spirits are very high,” Jase, 29, tells Yahoo Parenting. Still, he adds, “Going from one to four children in a short time was a big shock.”

The Miles City couple’s special delivery was a one-in-a-million phenomenon, according to Dr. Dana Damron, maternal fetal medicine physician with the Billings Clinic. “To have a patient with spontaneous identical triplets is incredibly rare,” he told the Billings Gazette.

Yet when Jody, 30, a bookkeeper at Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply, found out she was pregnant last May, the pair — who already have a son named Jax, now 6 — knew multiples might be in the cards. “My dad’s a multiple and I just kind of had that feeling that it would get me sooner or later,” said Jase.

The babies were born healthy, says dad of the tots, each between 3 and 4 pounds. First-born Cade was released first from the NICU recently, and Ian and Milo have a good chance of following next week.

“We are so excited that we may be able to go home soon,” says Jase, who works in Miles City in the water and sewer department. “It’s been a long time coming especially for my wife who has not been home since early November.”

The parents say they haven’t made many big changes to their home to prepare for welcoming the babies — they’ve focused mainly on preparing brother Jax for the transition. “At first he was not really interested in the idea [of becoming a big brother] but after they were born and we got him to hold one, now he always wants to hold one,” the proud papa tells Yahoo Parenting. “It is a lot for him to take in because he is a mama’s boy, and has always had mom’s undivided attention.”

To help, dad says they’re finding ways to keep Jax involved with the triplets so he doesn’t feel left out — and with three newborns at home, the Kinseys will need all the help they can get. Luckily, both sets of grandparents live nearby. “We have such good family support at home that we know everything is going to be OK,” Jase says.
