YOUTUBE/SESAME STREET
Even Muppets can use some career advice, and Abby Cadabby totally lucked out by learning about all the great things a girl can be from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor in a recent Sesame Street episode. (Watch it on youtube.)
As a mom to two young girls who, like Abby, have on several occasions announced their intention to grow up to be a princess, I couldn't help but get teary when the wise judge tells the Sesame Street gal, "Pretending to be a princess is fun, but it is definitely not a career."
So, what (sniff) does Sotomayor advise? "You can go to school and train to be a teacher, a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer and even a scientist."
After watching, my youngest declared she wants to be a teacher and my oldest wants to be a reporter -- or possibly the President of the United States ("So I can have a career like you, Mom."). (Full on sob.)
R is for role model -- and this one couldn't be better. Now, can someone spare some tissues while I put the tiaras back in the toy bin?
