I've said it before, but I really am a creature of habit. I like what I like, I do what I do, and that's pretty much my life in a nut shell. (Sounds kind of drab when I put it like that, doesn't it?)
Anyways, four years ago (before my major lifestyle overhaul), I had started a pretty rockin' routine. I was running three times a week and absolutely loving it. But then, in the midst of my major makeover, I went to Las Vegas.
In retrospect, the timing was awful and I should have known that messing with my routine in its infancy was a mistake — but I didn't. And let's be real: it was a trip to Vegas and I wasn't going to turn it down because I had started working out.
The moral of the story is this: I went to Vegas, I had an amazing time. I ate, I drank, I lounged by the pool, and I didn't run once. I didn't make it to the gym, and after six days of no running, my routine was ruined. I couldn't get back into it and I think it took me another year and a half before I re-entered a gym or started any sort of fitness program. And now I'm scarred.
Tomorrow, I leave for Florida for eight days. And while I've been on multiple vacations since my lifestyle overhaul, there is still a little bit of me that gets nervous every time I'll be veering away from my regularly scheduled program.
I worry that stepping away from my routine could cause it to fall apart altogether. I've already scoped out the gym at the hotel and planned my pre-vacation workout schedule so that if I skip a day or two when I get there, it won't be a big deal — but still, I can't help but worry.
Have you ever had a vacation ruin your routine? How do you prevent it from happening?
