What we think of McDonald's new McCafé coffee

What We Think of McDonald's New McCafé Coffee People are reeling over the new McDonald's McCafé coffee.

Blended from 100 per cent Arabica beans, this new brew is challenging reigning champs Starbucks and Tim Hortons for the coveted role of top to-go coffee.

We decided to taste-drive the coffee for ourselves with a few lucky volunteers. (Hey, free coffee in the afternoon? That's what we call lucky.)

Here's what we thought of the new brew:

While I am so not a coffee connoisseur as I like to weigh my down with milk and sugar I actually found the McCafé good.  I don't like strong coffee and so I think it was just the right amount for me. Kind of reminded me of Timmy's coffee.  I would go get it again. — Liana Peart

It's not bad. I wouldn't describe it as good, but it's definitely not bad. It's sort of like a Starbuck's coffee, but without the bitter basenotes. Or like a less well-rounded Timmy's. I probably wouldn't buy it again unless it was the only thing around. — Jes Watson

Deeper flavour than Timmy’s, lighter than Starbucks. Didn’t taste instant. Still not my thing. — Adina Goldman

The McCafé coffee does the job, overall, though it tastes a bit sour. I think I'll only grab it again if it's free or because of proximity. It's McOK.— Lori Mastronardi

I preface this by saying I know very little about coffee, though I do drink it occasionally. The McD's brew tasted a little watered down, as expected. It also had that hint of burnt flavour (which I kind of love). I most enjoy plain coffee on road trips or when camping (I'll usually drink a latte in the city), so for me, McD's tasted just as I'd expect a regular cup of coffee to taste. Nothing fancy. Just coffee.  I'd most likely buy a cup again. With a side of fries. — Mia Shulman

Only 2 out of our 5 tasters would buy the McCafé coffee again, but 3 would pass on this new cup of joe.

We want to know: What do you think of the new McDonald's coffee? What's your favourite to-go cup?

And is it just us, or does the lid look a little bit like a face?

You took five people's opinions and called it a survey? Dumb.

I was skeptical, but now I go out of my way to find McD's for coffee. And yes,l like their new stores, sit down comfortably with a newspaper or free wifi - watch out Timmy's....

I think McD's coffee is much better than Starbucks - whiich is way too expensive and too strong for my taste, its better than Timmy's which is a bit weak for my taste. McD's coffee offers better VALUE for your money. Haven't tried any of the new McCafe flavours yet.

Mc Donalds Coffee Rocks and has for about 6 yrs. I switched long ago dish water is to high a commpliment for Tims, Star Bucks is a good strong brew as well but for the buck Mc D's is by far the best and then throw in a pretty darn good Muffin for a dime and nothing touches the value. Tim's and thier always fresh (frozen) dog nuts are going down hill in a hurry throw in a free half hour (if you lucky) wait in the drive through... you be the judge.

Hate to say it, but McD's coffee is better than Tim Horton's.

McDonalds coffee is not only better than Tim's, it has a lid that is second to none. Where else can I get a (senior's price) coffee for $.98 incl. tx.?

I don't understand why people are willing to pay $5 to $6 every day for starbucks coffee. It baffles my mind and then people wonder why they live from pay check to pay check.

      $5*30= 150/month
      $5*365=1825/year

Its funny how the right branding and marketing can make people pay heck lot of a premium for a commodity.

I like it. In fact, that is what I get most mornings. Sorry Tim

I forgot to mention also, McD's lids are far more safe and spillproof than Tim's, whose lids have been a messy, drippy, spilly problem for years......

A friend of mine runs a coffee business. He sells all different quality coffees to companies depending on what they want it for. He buys and sells different "grades" of coffee. He says that places like Timmies, MacDonalds etc all sell the lowest quality of coffee you can find. Starbucks and Second Cup take it up a notch. This is coming from the expert in the business. People like Timmies because that's what they drink day in and day out. It's like people who like Coors light over premium beers. You'll never convince them otherwise.

Tim Horton's coffee is coffee flavoured bogwater. People who think Tim's is good coffee have been brainwashed by the commercials. McD's coffee is MUCH better.

I personally like MCDonalds Coffee and given the choice at the same price it would be McDonalds. Starbucks would be way down the list and I would probably pass on Coffee Starbucks was the only one available. Tims is okay. I drink Coffee black so the taste orf the Coffee, can't be masked with Cream & Sugar. T have a poll with 5 people, and knowing what they were drinking is a waste of time. Set up a taste test with all 3 Coffees, and only allow Coffee drinkers to vote.

Mcdonalds is more consistant. Every Double Double at Timmys is different. No consistancy at all. Mcdonalds coffee is the same every time.

I prefer McDonald's coffee to Tim Horton's. Tim's is overrated (and the attitude in some of the stores stinks).
    • GetItRight  •  23 days ago
I have always preferred McD's coffee over the other two. Good flavour, great price point and not acidic. When I want something really special....you gotta do it yourself or go very high end, that's reality.

Canadians are brain washed over Tim Hortons. Timmies lost the race a long time ago by selling slop instead of pure Arabica beans. Arabica is the only way to go and no one bothers to read the label on a can of coffee. Mc D is truly the better flavour coffee and besides a coffee and a muffic for $1.50! Look out Tim
    • VIJAY  •  Euless, United States  •  22 days ago
McD's much better than Tim's...Tim's is expensive, cheap and poorly designed lid, looks like made out of degraded plastic.....McD's has much better coffee in a cup that is decent and works...
This is weird that this survey is conducted by only 5 people who have no taste of coffee and to top that it is posted on internet....That's a Joke....Its a biased survey...boooooooooo

Mcdonalds coffee is the bomb!! The rest of their food, not so... especially their plastic fries that never rot...

I WAS A TIMS FAN BUT THEIR QUALITY HAS GONE TO THE DOGS. THOUGHT I WOULD TRY MC'S AND FOUND IT ONE OF THE TASTIEST COFFEES AROUND. STILL LIKE STARBUCKS BUT HAVEN'T WON THE LOTTERY YET TO DRINK ALL THE TIME.
