The world’s most expensive cooking pot

Chefs, cooking show hosts, food bloggers and amateur cooks alike ramble on about the importance of quality wares in the kitchen.

When culinary experts encourage investing in quality, they probably aren’t expecting us to fork over half a million dollars on a single pot.

In Zhuo Zhan department store in Changchun, the capital city of China’s Jilin Province, the world’s most expensive cooking pot will set you back 3.8 million Chinese Yuan (about $570,000 CDN).

All the pot’s handles are pure gold and embossed with diamonds. About 738 grams of gold was used in total.

Not comfortable taking the pricey pot home on public transit? Never fear, this pot will be delivered to you — yes, free delivery — in a Rolls-Royce.

(Sorry, you don’t get to keep the car. If you can afford the pot, surely you already own a luxury ride)

To sweeten the “deal,” a free dinner for 10 at Europe’s finest restaurant comes with the pot purchase.

A Fissler China spokesperson promises, “Any buyer of this pot will get out top service. He or she would not only be invited to the top Michelin restaurant in Europe with 10 of his or her friends, but also the company would deliver the pot to his or her address with a Rolls-Royce.”

We have yet to hear how diamond-studded handles improve culinary prowess. Surely, they must.
