Secrets of people who never get sick

(Thinkstock)Ever notice that some people just don’t get sick? Or maybe you’re one of the lucky few, able to brag about not recalling the last stuffy nose or upset stomach you've had.

Author Gene Stone recently highlighted the sometimes-surprising secrets of 25 such super-healthy people in his book “The Secrets of People Who Never Get Sick.”

Among his most surprising stay-healthy discoveries? Cold showers.

“Many of the secrets were surprising, but cold showers was the oddest of all — not just because it sounds so strange — but also because there’s a large body of research that validates its efficacy (most of it, unsurprisingly, coming from cold Northern Europe),” Stone told Fox News.

Stone also confessed that he’s adopted the habit of chewing raw garlic since researching his book. (The ancient Egyptians ate raw garlic enough to warrant garlic-ration complaints on the pyramids.)

Other secrets in his book include drinking brewer’s yeast dissolved in hot water — it’s a great source of vitamins and minerals — eating a calorie-restricted diet, napping, balancing the body’s pH levels, and weight lifting.

    WebMD
lists other secrets of the always-healthy. Read them here. (Yes, an apple a day really does keep the doctor away.)

Do you rarely get sick? If so, what’s your secret?

I get one cold a year, usually during a time of high stress. I do balance Ph levels in body by eating healthy, avoiding processed foods, I like onion and eat it regularly, also drink lemon water in large doses, and I do nap. Sometimes can feel myself getting sick but it only lasts a day or a few hours and then it's gone. Stress and poor diet can make you very sick!!

I rarely get sick. I see sick patients all day. I do not take any vitamins or herbal products, I take hot showers, and I don't eat garlic. This article is just plain stupid.

LOL, I never get sick and I do don't one of these ridiculous things mentioned in this article. When I was little I played in the dirt, and my mom didn't sterilize everything till I was 2! I lived normally and built up a good immune system.

Never, ever, touch your face when you go out. As soon as you get home, wash hands. I wash my hands after opening mail even. If your hands don't introduce germs to your nose or mouth, you can avoid most colds.

I starting taking vitamin D daily now since last November, I have come in contact with many people since than with colds and flews. This realy works, just when I think I'm coming down with somthing it disapears the next day. Forget cold FX or any other kind of products out there claiming to prevent colds and flews, this realy works.

I rarely get sick. Part of it is attitude - I know I'll carry on. Part is common sense in terms of being body conscious. Get enough rest or your immune system is compromised. Don't argue with that. Stress is a killer. It compromises your immune system. Find a way to deal with stress and dissolve its disastrous effects or you'll compromise your immune system. In my belief system, cancer is caused by fears and stress. Find ways to truly liberate your mind and feeling world from situations and people who seem bent on bringing you down. Be upbeat, as much as possible. As the expression goes, let the troubles and yakking of negative people slide off you like rain off a duck's back. Don't let the bad stuff stick. Learn to love a sense of humour that is positive and never takes cheap shots at others. Don't take your work home with you. Separate your real life from work. Balance is key. Make an effort to find quality time in things, activities and people which doesn't re-attach an umbilical to your work. Love yourself. Forgive yourself as easily as you can forgive others. Make a routine of finding moments to be alone and at peace in your own mind. Be grateful for all the good things you have that most people in the world do not. Learn to appreciate and literally thank your body for soldiering on, despite all of your abuses. Think healthy. Feel restored.

usually very healthy but not because of anything I do, I am 73 and I do snowshoe all winter (weather permitting) and shovel all my own snow, but eat a normal diet, have a drink when I want one, and generally just live my life!

yeah those people are called "people with good genes"

Cause not separated from effect. Anyone who died from cold showers wouldn't be included in the data. Anyone who got sick from cold showers would stop having cold showers. The result: people who have cold showers routinely without getting sick were always naturally healthier. Stop trying to re-invent Darwinism.

I very rarely get sick. Would love to brag, but I attribute this almost entirely to genetic predisposition. My parents are the same way. Didn't hurt that they traveled world wide and were exposed to plenty. Tho I do wash my hands frequently, and avoid touching my face or eating food without washing hands first. Many folks sit down to eat a burger or sammy or other finger foods in a restaurant without first washing hands...not sure why.

It's funny how "they" keep inventing 'going back to basics' as news or a major discovery.

Pathetic, we are so detached from reality - living in North America where everything is loaded w/ chemicals and perservatives. No wonder it takes dead body longer to decompose nowdays.
Organic food is nothing but a trend nowdays. Nothing is organic in stores unless you grow it yourself.

People you have a brain, use it yourselves, don't let corporations brainwash ypou.

Don't 'eat' everything "they" serve you.
Look at us now, we are stuck with no future, no future for our kids, no jobs, no pensions and we are bashing occupy movements. Wake up and smell the fair trade coffe, if so!

I rarely get sick. I put LOTS of garlic in my food. I believe that garlic is a germ killer. I used to give my dogs and cats garlic and brewer's yeast and they all lived a very long and good life.

Wash you hands frequently, especially after you go out to the store or any public place. You can't get sick without germs.
      • AT 3 months ago
exc. advice but you are incorrect saying if you do this you can't get sick. you will still get sick from time to time with AIRBORNE transmitted illnesses.
      • Azaeal 3 months ago
sorry but your body is covered in germs no way around it. Washing your hands helps but it cannot rid you from germs.
      • 3¢worth 3 months ago
Most colds, flu, etc. are caused by touching (with your hands) your nose, eyes, and mouth. You can get sick from airborne germs, but they are a minority. Most germs on your body, in fact most germs in general (bacteria & viruses), are either not harmful or beneficial to people. We've lived with them for thousands of years and often have a symbiotic relationship with them. For example, if humans didn't have bacteria like e-coli in our innards we wouldn't be able to properly digest our food. Of course e-coli outside of the gut is a different story.
