Over-the-top kids’ rooms are parent-sanctioned design extravagances that rarely successfully transition into the teen years.
Rooms that cost tens of thousands of dollars, commissioned by dreamers and designed by the best, are fun to look at. And, let’s face it probably really fun to live in.
Good Morning America recently explored some extreme — and extremely expensive — kids' rooms, many of them trumping the colourful wonderlands created by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The over-the-top spaces — which child psychologists warn could create a sense of entitlement — may be more about the parents using décor as an opportunity to live vicariously through their children.
"It's more about me," admitted extreme-room mom Julie Spangler. "It was really an opportunity for me to create a kind of fantasy room for her that was totally princess-y . . . a girl's dream come true as a bedroom.
If you had the cash, would you spend it? How much is too much to spend on a room that will be outgrown in a few years?
Even if you could never justify spending the equivalent of college tuition on designer chandeliers for your little girl, it’s hard to deny the coolness factor of that pirate ship.
