One of the biggest trends I've bought into this season is the maxi; whether it's a floor-sweeping skirt or an ankle-grazing dress, I like my hemlines long, long, long right now. I love the way maxis gives me a sleek, streamlined silhouette. I wear them with flat sandals (the more delicate and foot-baring, the better) and try to keep the look as unfussy as possible (not too much jewellery, a basic tank with skirts, and a cropped, fitted jacket if it's cool outside). The key is finding skirts and dresses that are the perfect length for me — at 5'11", I can't tell you how many times I've tried on a "maxi" that barely comes down to my calves, but when I do find maxis that are truly long, I snap them up.
The best thing about embracing a trend is being able to choose from so many variations on the look, and at a wide range of prices, too. Here are some of my favourite maxis in stores right now:
From left: Gap strapless print maxi dress, $80; Tibi mosaic-print strapless jersey maxi dress, US $345; Milly halter maxi dress, $495.
From left: Diane von Furstenberg jersey drawstring dress, US $298; Banana Republic printed ruffle-tier maxi dress, $215; French Connection embroidered maxi dress, $168.
From left: Anthropologie striped maxi skirt, US $98; Zara long crepe skirt, $30; Indah long wrap skirt, $128.
