Let the fashion games begin! Celebrities-turned-designers Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham, who are real-life best friends, will both debut their spring/summer 2013 collections on September 9 at New York Fashion Week. Yes, on the same day.
While Beckham has already established herself in the industry, running not one but two critically-acclaimed lines (Victoria Beckham and Victoria Victoria Beckham), this upcoming season will be Holmes’ first time showing Holmes & Yang -- a line she started with her stylist Jeanne Yang. Let’s break down the odds of who will come out on top:
Press: While Beckham is hot off an Olympic-worthy Spice Girls reunion, we have a feeling Holmes’ recent divorce from Tom Cruise will draw in the most attention.
Respect: Holmes’ line is sold at Barney’s while Beckham’s line is sold at Bergdorf’s, but the advantage goes to Beckham: she’s already received praise from hard-to-impress fashion leaders like Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld, not to mention winning the prestigious British Fashion Award.
Success: Serious fashionites will be drawn to Beckham’s body conscious silhouettes and playful prints, but Holmes’ collection of motorcycle jackets and shirt dresses appeal to the masses. As a fashion magazine, we have to side with Beckham.
