It’s the sale of the century: from Alexander McQueen to Givenchy, couture collector and heiress Daphne Guinness is auctioning off roughly 100 items from her wardrobe at Christies in London, on Wednesday, June 27. The proceeds from the auction will be used to honour the late Isabella Blow, the iconic stylist responsible for launching McQueen’s career.
The auction is expected to rack in over $160,000, but with custom couture including a 1987 Christian Lacroix gown and Noritaka Tatehana heel-less platform shoes (a favourite of Lady Gaga’s), we have a feeling it will bring in a lot more.
Guinness notably bought Blow's entire eclectic wardrobe in 2010 following her death to prevent the collection from being fragmented. The heiress is now selling her own goods in hopes of raising enough money to exhibit Blow's collection at the Central Saint Martins college. “It should be for people who are learning, not just people who can afford a ticket to the Met Ball,” Guinness says of Blow’s wardrobe.
