Winnipeg Tim Hortons employees tie the knot at work

Who says weddings have to be expensive? Some Canadian couples are choosing to tie the knot where they drink (and make) coffee.

In March, a Nova Scotia couple wed where they first met: at a New Mintas Tim Hortons.

And this Saturday, a Winnipeg couple said "I do" where they both work: at the Timmys at 570 Pembina Highway.

Surrounded by friends, family, and surprised customers, Curtis Fazackerley, 27, and Anna Karla Viar, 22, exchanged vows during a short noon-hour ceremony at the store where they work — and first met.

The rings were delivered to the bride and groom in a Timbits box. Dessert was a frosted doughnut cake.

"Curtis and Karla came to us about five days ago and said they wanted to get married in the store," franchise owner Mavis Mikolajek tells Global News. "I thought, no big deal. The commissioner came and met with us and said it would take about three minutes."

"Employees got involved and it just got bigger and bigger," Mikolajek tells the Winnipeg Sun.

Staff even created special edition "Karla and Curtis True Love" doughuts to commemorate the day.

"It was her first day," Fazackerly recalls about the day they met in 2010. "I showed up and asked her to make me a large 'double double' and it went from there."

Fazackerley and Viar ended up working the same overnight shift together. Late night conversations led to friendship, which led to romance.

Fazackerley originally planned to propose in August. When the couple learned they were expecting a child — due on the day he was planning to pop the question – he decided to move the date up.

Their baby is due on August 28.

The couple plans to renew their vows in a religious ceremony next year.

If you could, would you consider getting hitched where you first met your partner?
