Victoria’s Secret petitioned to use transgender model Carmen Carrera

It would be nothing short of revolutionary for lingerie giant, Victoria's Secret, to hire a transgender model for its very first time. Yet this is exactly what a new Change.org petition is calling for.

Carmen Carrera first burst into the spotlight in 2011 when she appeared on season 3 of the reality television show "RuPaul’s Drag Race." After the season ended, she made a public gender transformation and started modelling for Elite Model Management.

And now, after being featured twice in W Magazine and making an appearance in the Marco Marco runway show, a petition is calling for the New Jersey native to be used as a Victoria's Secret model.

"This petition is for Victoria's Secret to seriously consider taking Carmen Carrera on as an Angel," reads the petition, which has been signed by more than 23,000 people. "By making Carmen the very first trans supermodel, you will help to end femmephobia within the LGBTIQQA community but also it will show the entire trans community that you embrace them as your patrons."

Carrera's reaction to the petition is brimming with gratefulness.

"I'm amazed!" she writes on her Facebook fan page. "And just to make it clear, this petition is not to force VS to do anything. It's to prove that the world is ready for change and possibilities are endless!"

She isn't the first transgender model attempting to break industry standards and make a name for herself.

Canadian beauty queen Jenna Talackova made history as the first Miss University Canada pageant contestant in 2012, which forced the pageant to end its ban on transgender contestants.

And Serbian model Andrej Pejic first broke ground in 2011, when she walked both the men’s and women’s runways for Jean-Paul Gaultier.
