Tables turned: Women dating multiple men

Long gone are the days when women sat by the phone, waiting to hear from a gent. In today's world, women can make the first move, play the field and juggle a few men at once.

According to an informal U.K. study, one in four single women date three men at the same time. Also, the average single woman dates five men within a year and sixty-five percent of these British ladies are initiating the dates too.

"This new forthright attitude goes down well with a third of men, who say they find it refreshing to be asked out," reports the Daily Mail.

So what do we owe this influx of women taking the reigns? A quarter of women admit they like the feeling of control that comes with asking a man out and 27 percent say 'traditional dating rules no longer apply'.

But what about Canadian women? Do they feel the same way?

"It varies in different cities in Canada. You will find a more liberal attitude in Montreal than you will in Saskatchewan," says Andrea Syrtash, relationship expert and author of He's Just Not Your Type (And That's a Good Thing). She adds, "At the beginning stages of dating it's very healthy to date multiple people."

Typically men are the ones with a reputation for playing the field, so does a lady with a bustling dating repertoire need to worry about judgment from others?

"If both men and women are doing this it creates more fairness. We're not saying they are sleeping with three men at once. If you're an adult you should make decisions that feel right for you," says Syrtash. She suggests not cutting off other dating partners after a first date with a charmer, as it takes time to get to know someone well.

"As a dating strategy it's worth trying because you will be more attractive to the people you are dating if you are not extremely invested in that person," adds Syrtash.

Small note of caution: make sure you're not juggling men who happen to run in the same social social. That's definitely going to ruffle some feathers.
