Could this little gadget be the key to marital bliss?

Amateur inventor Rafael Hwang thinks he's found the solution to the argument that's plagued co-habiting couples for decades: "Honey, you forgot to pick up eggs!"

Introducing Egg Minder, a smart egg tray that connects to your cell phone to tell you exactly how many eggs you have left in the fridge, no matter where you are.

The smart egg tray is connected to your smart phone through a mobile app, and allows you to track everything from the quality to the quantity of eggs left in the tray. It will also send your phone push notifications to let you know when you're running low.

And that's not all -- once the egg tray is opened at home, LED lights guide you to the oldest eggs, so you can be sure to use those up first -- eliminating any food waste.

The invention is a joint venture between 23-year-old Hwang and Quirky, a crowd-funding company that brings amateur inventors' visions to fruition through the support of consumers who want to purchase the product. Kitchen appliance giant GE partnered with Quirky to release the Egg Minder, which retails for $49.99.

Hwang tells The Atlantic that he was inspired to create the Egg Minder after watching Quirky founder Ben Kaufman show off the company's latest inventions on 'The Tonight Show.' After submitting his rough sketch to Quirky, the Egg Minder was born, and now Hwang receives roughly 13 per cent of Egg Minder's sales, a bit more than $15,000 profit so far.

Not bad considering all Hwang did was submit a doodle. His other proposed inventions include an app that lets you turn your hair straightener on or off remotely and an app-enabled air freshener.
