SickKids video honours Ontario boy fighting cancer

Five-year-old Antonio got a huge surprise recently when he was out with his family at the movies and the trailers started playing.

The Hamilton boy, who has battled acute lymphocytic leukemia since he was four, was featured as a real-life hero in the video produced by SickKids Foundation.

The audience gave the young boy a standing ovation, while his father and mother sat quietly with tears in their eyes.

"His smile can light up a room," said his mother, while he was going through multiple rounds of chemotherapy last year. "Even when he's feeling sick from chemo he still cracks jokes - it's amazing."

This fall, he started senior kindergarten and is doing considerably better, undergoing a maintenance period of cancer treatment.

Antonio isn't the first young boy battling cancer to receive overwhelming support from his community.

Last week, a California boy in remission from leukemia received a rally of support from his country. He fulfilled his wish of dressing up as a Batkid and meeting Batman in a ceremony that even United States President Barack Obama acknowledged.
