Pregnant teens banned from appearing in yearbook at Michigan high school

Oh the excitement and jitters so many of us felt in anticipation of the release of our high school yearbooks.

While admittedly some of us were more petrified the enormous zit that graced our forehead the day the photo was taken would be noticed by our Grade 10 boy crush, the truth is, we mostly relished in the yearbook experience.

This is why it pains us to tell you a Michigan school district has denied two pregnant teens their moment of fame. That's right, they've been banned from showing their bellies in their school yearbook photos.

Both Deonna Harris and Kimberly Haney were told they could only have a yearbook photo without their bellies showing at White Cloud High School, reports WoodTV.

"It made me tear up. I was trying to hold it back because I didn't want everyone to ask me why I was crying and stuff," says Harris.

"I also went to the bathroom and cried," Haney adds.

Harris' original photo shows her in a truck with a couple of friends outside of school. Haney's original photo shows her with her boyfriend making a pretend marriage proposal. They were not allow to use those images and told they had to retake their photos.

The girls refused to shoot new ones hiding their pregnancies and say they're being discriminated against.

The superintendent claims the district is keeping with the state’s abstinence-based approach to sex education.

Abstinence policy or not, the reality is these girls have probably endured enough pubic embarrassment about their pregnancies and shouldn't be made to sludge through more.

Though it appears this type of shaming is par for the course at some American schools, because another recent case involves a North Carolina teen who was not allowed to pose for her high school yearbook with her baby.
