Fourteen-year-old Shelby Buster thought she was going to have an amazing birthday shopping with a friend this past Saturday, but the experience turned out to be a nightmare.

While the Oregon teen and her friend were checking out perfume at rue21 clothing store in Valley River Center mall in Eugene, she says she was approached by a store employee and asked to leave because of her weight.

"I walked in and the lady at the front counter said, 'Hey you're too big to be in this store, I need you to leave,'" she tells ABC.

"This made no sense to me," Shelby tells CNN. "They should just have more respect, just to refrain from insulting people like me and stuff."

Buster told her mother, who was waiting in the food court, about the incident. Her mother told the girls to write down exactly what happened and then went to the store to complain. Employees at the store reportedly apologized at the time.

Shelby then complained on the company's Facebook page on Saturday, which they responded by saying the employee's comment was "completely unacceptable." They asked Shelby to private message them so they could discuss the incident further.

As of Tuesday, the company had removed her posting. But not before a whole whack of other Facebook fans condemned the store for their alleged actions.

A rue21 district store manager claims the company is looking into the incident and trying to figure out exactly what happened. They will be looking a video footage from the store as part of their investigation, but urge that discrimination will not be tolerated at their stores.

Rue 21 is a teen store with nearly 1,000 locations around the U.S.
