Ontario baby’s emotional reaction to mother singing Rod Stewart wows internet

A Northern Ontario baby is stealing hearts across North America after a video of his emotional reaction to his mother singing a Rod Stewart song has gone viral.

Ten-month-old Marie-Lynne Leroux of Val Gagné, Ontario, is filmed by her father, Alain Leroux, as her mother, Amanda, belts out Stewart’s 1988 classic, "My Heart Can’t Tell You No.”

As the mother's voice carries the emotions of the song, tiny tears silently fall down little Marie-Lynne's cheeks as her eyes and expressive brows give away a range of feelings, from joyful grins to sad grimaces.

The mother tells TVA that she began to notice Marie-Lynne's reactions to her singing by the time she was eight months old -- happy songs made the infant smile, while sad songs tended to bring tears to her eyes. But this song in particular seems to have struck a chord.

"No one can explain why, not even I," Amanda tells Storyful of her daughter's powerful reaction. "I can sing any other song and do not get the same reaction from her. It’s too adorable to keep all to ourselves.”

The family posted the video to YouTube on Oct. 18, where it has seen more than 500,000 times.

While most are viewing the two-minute video as a powerful moment between mother and child, others are pointing to a lack of understanding when it comes to infant emotions.

"Though I don't want to diminish the perceived beauty in this... It is possible that the pitch/frequency of some of the notes is hurting the child's ears. I'd definitely have the cute little one's ears checked out for any hearing issues," writes one commentor.

"Don't make the baby sad you cruel woman," accuses another.

"Why would one put such a personal moment on facebook? When your baby starts crying, you comfort him, you don't grab a videocamera. The things people will do for a few views on youtube," quips another.
