Let the ‘Boyfriend Body Pillow’ spoon you to sleep

Who needs a boyfriend when there's a pillow, shaped like a man's torso, available to hold you all night? And at just $34.95 each, the pillow is certainly cheaper than an actual relationship.

The Boyfriend Body Pillow, from Michigan-based Deluxe Comfort, is described by the company as "a soft body pillow that looks like the torso of a man with a comforting arm that cuddles and holds you throughout the night."

Jo Davison of the British publication Star doesn't hide her cynicism when writing about the artificial lover's embrace.

"For added realism, it comes with a removable, one-sleeved shirt. You can wash and iron it for him; make yourself a domestic drudge. Bliss," Davison writes.

The company hopes the 2-pound headless body will keep lonely singles company, and offer a little extra comfort for those in long-distance relationships.

"This fun and cozy snuggle pillow is excellent for people whose partner is away on military leave or work absence. Singles, who desire to feel the touch of a man, without actually having to be with one, will love it too," the website advertises.

Not to leave out the lonely males out there craving a little female cuddle time, Deluxe Comfort also offers a Girlfriend Body Pillow, complete with a "breast-like sensation." The pink-and-yellow female version cost $5 less.

"So, if giving weird, possibly inappropriate gifts is your thing, hop online before they're all gone on Cyber Monday. And maybe get one of these for your dear, sad auntie," CNN's Jarrett Bellini writes.

The sure-to-keep-single-people-single pillow isn't the only one of its kind. There appears to be a recent surge of pillows targeted at the lonely demographic.

There's the girlfriend lap pillow, developed for men who want to fall asleep on a woman's thighs. There are Posterior Plushies, life-size Twilight body pillows, and for long-distance couples, PillowTalk enables couples' glowing pillows to pulsate to the rhythm of each other's heartbeats.

Can a pillow really fill a relationship gap? Or would waking up next to a pillow only make you feel worse about sleeping alone?
