Italian ham ad shows meat over naked woman’s body

Critics are blasting an Italian ham company for comparing its meat to a woman's rear-end.

The billboard ad, which was found on the country's island of Capri, includes an image of a naked woman's bottom covered in two slices of Parma ham, which is a variety of prosciutto that the company, Onesto Ghirardi, sells.

The slogan? "I Ham."

Shortly after the billboard was posted in the island's marina, pictures of it started appearing on social media, accusing the ham company of “degrading women” and saying that “a woman’s body is not a piece of meat,” reports The Local.

An island councillor, Anita De Pascale, who caught wind of the ad is now urging the mayor to remove it immediately.

“The image is detrimental to the dignity of women,” she tells local newspaper La Repubblica.

This isn't the first time a company has been accused of comparing food to the female body.

In 2009, fast-food giant Arby's placed a print ad in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition that featured two hamburgers meant to resemble breasts.
