Disappointed bride offers botched wedding cake on EBay

For some brides, the wedding goes off without a hitch. For others, the resulting ulcer is still worth the happiest day of her life.

For an unlucky few, chaos.

Celia, a woman who recently got hitched in the Northumberland, England, has a cake you may want to take a look at. Not because she wants to show off her 17-tier red velvet fondant with a word-for-word replica of her wedding vows handwritten in icing (this has to exist somewhere in Bridezillaland).

No. Celia wants the world to know that the bakery she commissioned to produce her tire cake (hey, different strokes for different folks) really blew it.

Naturally, a woman who wanted a wedding cake that replicated three vehicular tires stacked on top of one another already has a pretty great sense of humour.

So when the cake arrived on July 27 looking more like a trio of mutant Oreos that met an unfortunate fate along the assembly line, Celia concocted a clever way to demonstrate her displeasure.

Snapping a sad-looking photo of the sugary abomination, she uploaded the image to EBay and attempted to “sell” her used, unwanted cake. She included another photo of what the cake should have looked like, according to the model she originally requested.

“A few defects due to maker being unskilled," she writes in her seller notes. "Uncut, along with large amount of awful cupcakes for free. No topper or decoration. Unusual design. Very heavy."

Opening bid? Around CAD$1.59. Expensive when you think about it.

Naturally, the cake didn’t sell, although Celia never intended to sell it. The entire event was little more than a “prank” to express her frustration and to take back a little power in a situation she couldn’t do much about.

Celia also joins a long list of unwitting cake blunder recipients who have shared their mini disasters with a hungry public.

Back in June, an Indiana bakery became famous when they accidentally produced the world’s greatest graduation cake for Laura Gambrel.

Though Gambrel’s mother had asked for a “cap” to be drawn atop the photo of Laura included on the cake, the baker who took the call accidentally heard “cat” and proceeded to follow orders.

And if these tales of delicious terror have only whet your appetite, here are a few more disaster cakes for the history books.

Bon appetit!
