Dad fed up with daughter’s short-shorts embarrasses her by wearing his own

Instilling the value of modest dressing among teenage girls is a challenge, particularly at a time when Miley Cyrus twerking on stage and Lady Gaga's nude appearances are hotter than hot. So what are parents -- who want to teach their girls to have self-worth independent of sexualized beauty -- to do?

Well, one Utah dad fed up with his daughter’s preference for short-shorts had a unique approach.

Scott Mackintosh, father of seven, was about to go on a family night out last week when he overheard his teenage daughter refute her mother's request that she change into longer shorts. So, he took the things into his own hands -- and took some scissors to an old pair of his jeans. The result was a revealing pair of cut-off shorts designed to embarrass his daughter.

The best part? He topped off the look with a T-shirt that read: "Best. Dad. Ever."

"I’m a firm believer that the way we dress sends messages about us, and it influences the way we and others act," he says.

His story and photo, originally posted on his wife's blog, has gone viral with numerous media reports and booming popularity on Tumblr and Reddit.

"I simply did this in hopes that my daughter would know of my great love for her and that she knows of her great worth," Mackintosh tells Desert News. "Now that it has gone viral, I hope that young women everywhere understand their great worth. I will look like an idiot any day if that point gets across."

But did his intention to embarrass her work? While they got plenty of stares during dinner and playing miniature golf, his daughter seemed only mildly affected. It wasn't until they ended the night with milkshakes that she refused to leave the car and go inside the ice cream store with her family.

"My daughter said, “Uh, no! We are not going in!” Mackintosh explains.

Amused by her father's fashion choice that night, she later posted a photo of him in the outfit on her Tumblr account and it was subsequently posted on another person's Reddit account.

"My mom told me to change my 'slutty' shorts before we went to dinner. I said no. So my dad cut his jeans to fit in. We went to dinner and then mini golf like this," Mackintosh's daughter writes on Tumblr.

Yet despite what he suggests may have a been harsh lesson for her, he maintains it was a wise choice.

"My daughter will always know that her dad loves her and cares about her enough to make a fool out of himself."
