Cool dad invents bedtime-storytelling Smart PJs

One inventive dad just made bedtime routines cooler.

Juan Murdoch, a father of six, is the designer of Smart PJs for kids -- yep, those are pajamas that read your kids a story before bed.

"My wife and I have six kids and so I know how important a bedtime story is," Murdoch tells KTRK.

This is how the clever onesies work:

Parents can download a Smart PJs app onto their smartphone or tablet, then scan one of the many codes scattered across their kids' high-tech jammies. Depending on the code, the device reads aloud a bedtime story, start playing a lullaby or show cute pictures or animals.

"It's the element of surprise there that makes it fun," Murdoch tells TODAY.

"We purposely created Smart PJ's with the scannable dot patterns all over them so that parents can help the child scan the stories on their backs where they can't reach," Smart PJs founder Juan Murdoch tells Tech Cocktail. "We also put words to all the stories and animal information on the screen so that parents can turn off the volume and help the child learn to read the stories and words themselves."

The "world's first and only interactive pyjamas" come in four sizes for both boys and girls and costs $25 a pair.

While the fancy pajamas might be a great addition to family vacations — no need to pack a suitcase full of books when your kids' nightwear links to great bedtime reading — they don't exactly comply with the "keep technology out of the bedroom" guidelines.

Soon preschoolers won't be able to fall asleep without a smartphone. Like parent, like child?
