Cocoon 1: Swiss designers invent $3000 bubble home

Ever feel like you're living in a bubble? Metaphorically speaking, of course. Well, now you can do away with metaphors and live in a bubble for real, thanks to the round and transparent Cocoon 1 from Micasa Lab in Switzerland. For about $3000, you can own your own spherical getaway, reports Gizmag.com.

Why hang out in a giant plastic ball, you ask?

"Cocoon 1 is a very special place of retreat," say the folks at Micasa. "The innovative product magically connects aesthetics and function. Its insularity provides protection and seclusion. At the same time, its translucency enables us to let our thoughts wander whilst simultaneously allowing us to join in with life 'outside' if we wish."

The plastic globe can be kept indoors, propped in the grass, or even hung from a tree. If you're a water lover, the Cocoon also floats, and remains upright thanks to an added weight at the base.

Each Cocoon 1 comes with two standard pillows, and can be kitted out with addition pillows in a variety of shapes and sizes. You can also add a power pack to run electrical devises, a Kitchen module complete with stove, faucet and sink, and there is even the option of wifi.

The Cocoon 1 will reportedly be making its way over to North America next year, which kind of makes you wonder who might be in the market for a humungous plastic womb-like retreat?

Will there be Cocoons dangling from trees on the edge of Lake Ontario come next summer? Will folks be rolling them onto Vancouver's Kitsilano Beach to watch people stroll by from their "place of retreat"?

One thing is for certain, it's only a matter of time before someone converts this thing into a human hamster ball.

Would you find the Cocoon 1 relaxing? Is it worth the $3000 price tag?
