Chicago woman writes angry note to bike thief, gets free bike from Good Samaritan

A Chicago woman who wrote a scathing note to a thief who stole her bike and posted it publicly is touched by the actions of stranger who stepped up and bought her a new bike.

"He was the sweetest man I've ever met," Olgi Freyre tells NBC.

The 19-year-old part-time student, who works 40 hours a week to make ends meet, was outraged when her $700 bike was stolen this past Tuesday.

She spent all summer saving to buy her bike, and so when she realized it was missing, she lost it, penning an angry note and posting it at the scene of the crime.

To the piece of s--- that stole my bike from this bike rack,

Do you know how hard I worked to buy that bike? Actually, you stole it WHILE I was at work. I'm 19 and paid for that completely out of my own pocket. I work 40 hours a week. I go to school part-time. That bike was my only form of transportation, f------ a------. I don't even have a phone with a camera on it!

So, I don't care who you are or where you're from but you just stole something from a person who dedicates her time to making her life better rather than going around stealing s---. So f--- you. And if I ever figure out who you are all 100% of me is going to kick your stupid a--.

Her note caught the attention of Bob Curry, a random stranger. Recalling how it felt to have his own bike stolen at her age, he reached out Freyre, then him and his daughter took her to a bike shop.

"He just took me to the store and was like 'Go pick a bike,'" Freyre recalls. "I got a pretty awesome bike."

Several other strangers have also offered to buy her food and give her money, but she has kindly turned down their offers.

"That's not what I want," she says. "I like working hard for the things I've gained. I just wanted my bike."

All this kindness has restored her faith in humanity, she says, and so she's considering paying it forward with a bike drive or fundraiser.

Freyre is just the latest beneficiary in a string of recent acts of kindness by strangers.

Last week, a North Carolina single mother was brought to tears when a stranger paid for her family's Pizza Hut bill and left her a touching note.

And earlier this month, a man paid the restaurant bill of a grieving mom and daughter. He overheard the woman's cell phone conversation where she received bad news and broke down crying. The kind-hearted stranger then picked up their bill.
