British woman writes thank you note to burglars

When Kate Barrett discovered her house had been ransacked by burglars on Sunday, she did what any reasonable British woman with a strong wit would do.

She penned a cunningly sarcastic note to the thieves and pinned it on the back patio door they entered from. It cheered her up, she tells her Twitter fans.

The 36-year-old communications officer writes that she is "disappointed" the thieves ignored her VHS video and cassette collection and apologized for not having more expensive tastes.

Dear Burglars,

Thanks for popping by the other night and we're sorry we didn't have more for you to take.

As you now know, we don't have particularly expensive tastes so there's no need to come in again, unless you would like to take my collection of VHS videos and cassettes - Dan is very disappointed you didn't take these first time round.

If you would like them just knock on the front door and ask - no need to break another patio door as it's dreadfully hard work cleaning up all the glass.

Thanks for all the finger prints - we really appreciated those.

Lots of love

Barrett's boyfriend says despite the thieves going through every room in their Northampton house, they merely took a bit of cash, a camera and an iPod, and not much else.

"I think they were planning to go out through front door with the telly, but luckily the spare key doesn't work," Dan Owens, 34, tells BBC.

All in all, Barrett seems pleased with how she handled the incident, noting that while she was genuinely distraught, writing the note put a smile back on her face.
