Bra vending machine unveiled in Tokyo

Here's one more oddity to add to the growing list of weird stuff that comes out of Japanese vending machines. The innovative and tech-forward country has seen machines that dispense live crabs, eggs, freshly cut apples, lettuce, handkerchiefs, eye glasses and bread in a can.

And now, introducing the bra vending machine.

Japanese lingerie maker Wacoal unveiled the bra vending machine on Friday at its Une Nana Cool branded specialty shop.

“The vending machine’s strength is that you can quickly look at the size chart and buy,” the store manager tells the Japan Daily Press. She suggests this is convenient for customers who don’t like being sized by a sale representative.

That's right, customers choose their size, pony up the cash (2,940 yen, equivalent to CDN $31), and voila, a bra is dispensed within minutes. But hurry -- bras will be available for a limited time only.

“It’s very much a dream to put this in a spot where there aren’t any shop staff,” says the manager.

So far, public reaction to the machine has been mixed.

"Purchasing [a bra] without trying it on would be somewhat impossible (for me)," wrote a commenter on GirlsChannel, a website aimed at Japanese women.

"An old man probably came up with this idea," wrote another commenter.
