This fall, it's all about oxblood. If you haven't bought into the trend yet, these tips from Sharon Graubard, SVP of Trend Analysis at Stylesight, will definitely make you want to join the masses!

What exactly is "oxblood"? Oxblood is a rich burgundy with deep purple or brown undertones. It suggests the color of a Bordeaux wine.

What makes this color so unique to the runways this season? Previously, oxblood was used for footwear and handbags. This fall, however, designers such as Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Gucci and Diane von Furstenberg have featured it heavily in their collections. It's been showing up on everything from dresses and skirts to pants and outwear, as well as acting as a focal accent in abstract and floral patterns. Oxblood is an extremely versatile shade because it can work as a rich shade of neutral.

What are the best items/shades to pair with oxblood? What's really wonderful about oxblood is that works either as a pop of color or as a full monochromatic look without being overwhelming. Its rich wine hues are a great counterbalance to an inky navy coat or a cobalt leather jacket, where the blue-ish colors help accentuate the oxblood's deep purple undertones. An oversized golden yellow jacket or blouse acts as a muted yet complementary shade for oxblood tights. Newly chic for fall, pastels such as powder blue or baby pink (great for trousers) provide unexpected tonal play when paired with an oxblood top or jacket.

Which accessories are best in oxblood? A structured satchel or a sturdy pair of riding boots in this color would be great foundation pieces for the Fall season. Wearing several oxblood winter accessories at once is a fun and approachable way to break up the typical all-black winter look. Oxblood also looks particularly cozy when used for chunky knit gloves or scarves, while oversized fedoras or baseball caps in the color offer a sophisticated finish for any look. For jewelry, a chunky bib necklace is a unique statement piece, or try a polished garnet ring for an earthy pop of color. Don't forget to try a deep winey red nail polish or lipstick, which is an easy and dramatic way to incorporate this fab color into your look!
