Kim Kardashian Won't Wear Maternity Clothes

Kim Kardashian's doctor advised her to take it easy after she became ill on a flight home from Paris last week, but she's going to look damn good while doing it.

The reality star was recently spotted pumping gas into her Mercedes G-Wagon in Los Angeles on Monday wearing a tight, black Kardashian Kollection mini dress and open-toed Louboutin stilettos. The sexy look was classic Kim, one that's been a mainstay throughout her four-month pregnancy.

There will be no elastic waistbands, leggings, or flouncy tops for Kardashian. For most of her pregnancy, she's worn black, netted clingy gowns, sheer bra-bearing tops, lace LBDs, and army green peplum pants. She's even rocked nothing but a bed sheet in Du Jour magazine.

Her fashion choices are debatable but one thing is clear: Kim Kardashian won't wear maternity clothes—no big surprise considering how active she's been, jetting to business meetings, hopping international flights to fashion week, and treating herself to blood facials.

So why won't Kardashian give in to her pregnant body? She may not know what to do with it. There's a terribly awkward (but common) phase in pregnancy when you're far enough along to look bigger but your baby bump isn't quite defined, rendering many women in a sort of gray "fat zone" that makes fashion choices tricky. As Kardashian explained on her Celebuzz blog:

“I’ve found that I’ve gained inches and I’ve gotten wider but my belly hasn’t popped yet, so I struggle finding things that don’t make me look heavy. Some days my baby bump really shows, and some days it doesn’t… so I never really know what I’m going to look like."

And although she says she'll show off her bump when she's farther along, it's obvious Kardashian feels self-conscious right now, and really, who can blame her? Her wardrobe has been scrutinized to death since she confirmed her pregnancy on New Year's Eve. And when she has tried to dress for her expanding body, she's called "Shamu."

Kardashian isn't alone in her refusal to "look pregnant." While carrying her son Mason, her sister Kourtney shunned maternity clothes (and ahem, was criticized by Kim for doing so), Jessica Simpson wore clingy dresses and sky-high heels while pregnant with daughter Maxwell, Heidi Klum allegedly bought her usual duds in larger sizes while carrying daughter Lou, and the always-modest Gisele said that when she was pregnant with her son Benjamin, she wore her regular clothes with "minor adjustments to the belly."

As Kim explained to Du Jour, "I think because I have big boobs it could make me look heavier if I don’t, like, show off my waist or something. So I just have kind of learned to dress one way only."

Guess we'll have to accept it!
