    The Post-Divorce Makeover: Katy Perry

Fresh from her late 2011-divorce with comedian Russell Brand, Perry made the leap from pop art to a mature, retro-glam style. The singer dyed her My Little Pony-hued mane back to the rich black of her early career. This time around, though, she left the blunt bangs behind and is often seen with soft waves reminiscent of Old Hollywood. Russell Brand, eat your heart out.

Dramatic Changes: Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron

Like Natalie Portman in 2005's V for Vendetta, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron went under the clippers for some serious buzz cuts--all in the name of film. While Hathaway's rough Les Misu00e9rables 'do has grown into a flattering pixie, Theron's shaved head is still freshly shorn for her role in Mad Max. Their long locks may be gone, but their new haircuts have the added benefit of putting the spotlight on their beautiful facial features.

Fashionable Bobs: Karlie Kloss and Olivier Theyskens

Unlike celebrities, industry insiders tend to hold on tight to their iconic locks (see: Wintour, Anna), so it was quite a surprise to see both designer Olivier Theyskens and model Karlie Kloss chop their long, luscious hair into chin grazing bobs.. Kloss looks sweeter with her shorter 'do while Theyskens is as cool as ever with his messy grunge hair.

    Best Post-Disney Makeover: Miley Cyrus

Former kid-friendly star Miley Cyrus broke free from her Disney image with what is probably the most talked about hair cut this year. The Hannah Montana star chopped her infamous top knot right off her head in exchange for an edgy wide mohawk. It was the snip heard all around the world and even prompted someone to start an @Mileys_Bun Twitter account. Whether its swept up and a away or slicked down to the side, Cyrus still has lots of fun with her new look--even if there isn't much hair to play with.

    Hair Transformations: Lena Dunham

Best Impulsive Decision of the Year: Lena Dunham

The brain behind Girls caused a stir when she tweeted a photo of herself with the caption, "I Miley'd the shit out of this Saturday." Dunham definitely made her mark with her impulsive new cut, chopping it all off after wrapping shooting season two of Girls and six hours before attending Rachel Antonoff's Spring 2013 presentation where she surprised all other showgoers. Dunham's new cute head of hair is an inspiration for anyone hoping to take the boy cut dive.

    The Teenage Dream: Justin Bieber

Unlike Goliath, the teenaged heartthrob didn't lose any of his international starpower after he got rid of his long, sweeping bangs. While his old hair incited envy even from the likes of football player Tom Brady-a.k.a. Gisele's arm candy/husband-it must be a relief for the Bieb's neck to not have to do any more hair flips. Now, the Stratford, Ont. native keeps his hair up and out of his face with the sides trimmed for a more grown-up look.

Blonde Ambition: Crystal Renn and Elizabeth Moss

It seemed like both Renn and Moss were a little blonde-curious this year as the famous brunettes temporarily dyed their blonde. While Renn reportedly took the platinum dip for a job, Moss was just having a little bit of fun during her Mad Men down time. Both have since reverted back to their roots, but we hope Moss goes blonde once Mad Men wraps because she just looked so chic.

Brunettes Have More Fun: Jessica Stam and Mary-Kate Olsen

The two fashion scene regulars turned to the dark side this year and traded their signature blonde locks for some raven tresses. Stam looked like a rock-and-roll goddess on the runway as her dark hair framed her cat-like features. Olsen, on the other hand, recently moved to a lighter shade on the brunette spectrum, but has still made it a little easier for those who couldn't tell her and her twin apart.

    The Chameleon: Rihanna

Rihanna keeps her fans on their toes with her constant hair-changing ways. Within a year, Rihanna has jumped from long to short countless of times, even adding a de rigueur undercut. While she looked fantastic with super long curly hair, we have to admit we were completely smitten with the short Tinkerbell she was sporting circa September.
