5 Tricks to Erase Wrinkles Naturally

    By Ayren Jackson-Cannady, REDBOOK

Before you Botox, try these five easy at-home tricks to fight aging naturally.

    1. Wash With Oil: Sounds terrifying, right? But you should relax and try it if you have dry, weary skin, says Miami Beach dermatologist Leslie Baumann, M.D.: "Many natural oils contain linoleic acid, which helps skin retain water." Start with 10 ml of olive oil, says natural skin-care expert Sharon Gnatt Epel, then mix in 2 drops of one of these oils: carrot seed to boost elasticity, frankincense to restore skin tone, or lavender to calm redness. Massage it in for thirty seconds, then rinse with warm water. We promise, no morning-after acne.

    2. Rub These In: Meet the latest crop of natural time-busters from around the globe. African Anogeissus, found in Origins Plantscription antiaging serum, $55, stimulates production of fibrillin (a protein responsible for skin's "bounce back"). Kiehl's Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream, $60, is infused with Bulgarian Haberlea rhodopensis floral extract, a collagen booster. And sandthorn berry, a skin tightener, is found not only in some of the world's harshest climates but also in Yves Rocher Ovale Lifting Redensifying Night Care, $46, and Badger SPF 30 sunscreen, $16.

    3. Massage the Years Off: You can smooth skin with D.I.Y. acupressure, according to Maya Kron, acupuncturist at James Corbett Studio, a New York City spa. These moves will release tension and boost elasticity. Using the index and middle fingers of one hand, massage between your brows for 20 rotations. Apply light pressure to temples for 10 seconds, then to your jawbone joint (located in front of your ears) for 10 seconds. Repeat. Lightly press the muscle that protrudes when you clench your teeth for 5 to 10 seconds.

    4. Get Juiced: Salma Hayek is  44. How is that possible? The actress swears by juice cleanses, so much so that she cofounded Cooler Cleanse, a $58-a-day juice delivery program. During the three-day cleanse, you guzzle a whopping 18 pounds of organic fruits and veggies each day, says company cofounder Eric Helms. "This floods skin with vitamins A and C and other nutrients that boost cell turnover." No way you're spending more than your family's grocery budget on this regimen? Down a glass of green juice every day for a week instead. (At a juice bar or health-food store, ask for a blend of spinach, celery, parsley, lemon, pears, and cucumber.) By day seven your skin should feel softer and look more luminous. We'll drink to that.

    5. Snack on Superfoods: "Skin is a matrix of proteins, water, and fats that needs a nonprocessed food supply for replenishment," says dermatologist David Colbert, M.D., author of The High School Reunion Diet.  Here are three line-softening nibbles to grab now: Almonds pack skin-plumping fats and vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that helps offset UV damage. Dark chocolate with a cacao content of 72 percent or higher is rich in damage-fighting antioxidants as well. Blueberries give you a magic combo of antioxidants and collagen-protecting vitamin C.

Drink lots of water, eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables and lean protein, get plenty of sleep, don't smoke or go in the sun without SPF and use aloe on your face. It's all genetics and common sense.

Oh yeah, I forgot daily exercise of the aerobic variety. What's good for the rest of your body's health is also good for your skin. duh

My Grandmother used Pond's Cold Cream and barely had a wrinkle well into her sixties. She died in her late sixties but boy oh boy she had good skin.

I know two senior ladies who have cleansed with olive oil since they were kids. Their skin is gorgeous -- the envy of many younger women!

My mother was the same. Passed away at nearly 81 years old, and always had beautiful skin, with very few wrinkles. She used Noxzema cold cream a lot as a moisturizer - an inexpensive product used by many women, with beautiful skin, for decades.
I've inherited her skin, so I consider myself lucky.

My grandmother swore by Nivea products. She died at 97, not looking a day over 80. Everybody in my family followed her example, and we all have the skin to prove it.

Nothing can erase the wrinkles !!! It might reduce it a bit that's all. If you are black or asian you don't age agressively as white people do

      Dear SANDAN (a recent commenter):

I have a direct comment for you. I am a young educated man in Vancouver BC, Canada with graduate degrees and in the scientific fields of Chemistry research at a University and I agree that excessive attention paid to external appearance by women is problematic, and we should theoretically all pay attentions only to developing our mental abilities.

BUT your views (attached below) is far too simplistic and LACKING compassion towards real women (and men), who live in the very IMPERFECT REAL WORLD, where their much deserved opportunities, ranging from ones abilities to find relationships, life-mates to employments, for being judged by their appearance.

Of course, if a woman pays so much sickly attention to her look like the Kim Kadasians type, it is a woman you should avoid with a 100+ meter pole. But just saying that women earn their lines on the face and just get over their being judged, it is naive and cruel, because it is like saying, if you cannot have bread, then eat cakes. Women (and men) are judged based on their look that have hugh emotional implications in terms of opportunities they will accomplish in their lives. This is called the real world. I have worked with female & male colleagues in the IT industries where their potential for being hired was (under the table) by their looks, most unfortunately.

Just some basic maintenance of personal appearance is totally necessary and a healthy part of social tradition that will not go away soon. Please do not be so judgemental.

and why do women worry so much about wrinkles? probably because they are told to by the cosmetic companies that they make you look older, you earn wrinkles with life, so get over it.

Just when I think they are actually writing an article that doesn't promote some expensive cosmetic lines ( " try these 5 easy at-home tricks"........ ) there they are, started to be listed in the second item. THAT'S when I stopped reading. Does EVERY beauty article have to be nothing but an advertisement for some company or other ?
      • Flossie 3 months ago
Thank you! Gotta keep the advertisers happy, though.

I look up the raw ingredients they list and then make my own stuff. Thanks for the research big companies, you don't get any money from me though, lol!

So...basically what I got from this was "if you got money, you can have geat skin". Or wash your face with oil. If washing your face with oil is so great, how come people with money spend so much on skin care? Stupid.

You know people should really age with grace. What a sad society we have created. People insult military personnel by claiming they are brainwashed. All humans are subjected to brainwashing every day of their paltry lives. There must be something better out there.

You want to have a good skin? do not smoke, do not go under sun . Use SPF on your face and body everyday(even in the winter) and use night and day cream on your skin. Eat the right food like almonds and berries.

Have a friend in her mid '50s-not a wrinkle in sight...but she also never married nor had any kids...she owns her own house, lives next door to her parents, has never cooked a meal in her life and only has to go next door for meals.....

cleansing, as my doctor says, "it is the act of someone cleansing the money from your wallet, they just do not work as stated and are a really big money grab."

Best way to fight wrinkles: Start accepted that we all age and we all get wrinkles. Maybe we all need to start accepting wrinkles as natural and maybe our North American society won't stress as much. Stressing about wrinkles and aging shortens your life. Don't believe me? Okinawa, Japan. Home of some of the longest-living people on earth. People in this city not only respect but revere their elders. In turn, elders are less stressed about aging (wrinkles) and live longer lives.

Wash with baby soap, us a non greasy moisturizer with at least #15 UV protection, avoid the sun, use a # 65 sunblock, wear a hat and long sleeved shirt, get plenty of sleep, avoid stress, get plenty of exercise, eat properly, drink plenty of water, dont drink, smoke, eat junk food or cheat on the wife. That will help avoid wrinkles in the first place, it worked for me. Genetics helps but there isnt anything you can do about that.
