4 Foods to Help You Quit Smoking (and 3 that Make it Harder)

4 Foods to Help You Quit Smoking (and 3 That Make It Harder)
One of my close friends is trying to quit smoking for good. I know it's really hard for her to kick the habit, so I had to pass along this research we ran in EatingWell Magazine that certain foods can help-or hurt-your chances of quitting.

According to a study out of Duke University, these 4 foods make cigarettes taste terrible:
    • Fruits
    • Vegetables
    • Dairy Products
    • Noncarbonated beverages, such as water and fruit juice

These three foods make cigarettes taste better (avoid!):
    • Meat
    • Coffee
    • Alcoholic beverages

Ditch These 4 Foods to Clean Up Your Diet

Researchers can't explain why, but they think that foods may alter saliva production and temporarily change taste buds in a way that makes cigarettes more or less palatable.

Puff up your diet with more of the foods that can give you a leg up on quitting with these healthy recipes:
Fruit: Sweet fruit desserts ready in 15 minutes or less
Vegetables: Quick and delicious recipes for cauliflower, cabbage broccoli and more healthy vegetables
Yogurt: Citrus Berry Smoothie, Breakfast Parfait and more calcium-rich recipes with yogurt
Cheese: Homemade Baked Mac & Cheese and more cheesy pasta recipes to try

Have you found any foods that make it harder or easier for you to quit smoking?

I quit smoking right after my dental implant. During recovery you can't pucker because it will induce bleeding, so I couldn't smoke. I couldn't eat solids so I eat Del Monte fruit cocktail which according to this article is fruit and juice. Wow. not realizing this, I experienced no side effects, I remember saying I don't feel like smoking any more. Time passed and I just told everybody I didn't feel like smoking any more and that's how I quit.

I know alot of people who have quit smoking, some for 20 years, yet the minute they have a beer or a drink, they crave a cigarette. I have seen some people that only smoke when they drink. As for myself I'm complete opposite. If I'm having a few drinks and the more I drink the less I smoke, go figure.

If the smokes were not there your drug would not be tempting them. They might not be as strong as you.

If people smoked real tobacco, not the crap that you buy at the corner store, they wouldn't have to 'stop smoking' .

I used electronic cigarettes for a month to keep the smoking but get off the nicotine addiction. It works because half of the addiction is the prop and inhaling.

Creepy health fundamentalist won't talk about it but smoking moderately is good for the nerves and not particularly harmful. A massive Chinese study showed those who smoke 5 or less cigs a day to be healthier tnan non-smokers. Similar stat with occassional drinkers. Balance and moderation in lifestyle are keys to everything.

I'm sure calorie bombs like potato chips and chocolate bars are cumulatively killing more than cigarettes.

You can stay healthier than others by keeping your "wrong" habits smoking and drinking. Don't believe who tells about healthy lifestyle - this is 100% business.

"News Flash" Anyone who smokes can quit!! No need to change your diet! No need to sub-due yourself by taking some expensive/cheap drug! """"YOU have to, want too quit"""" YOU have to honestly say I have had enough!!!!!!!! The desire to smoke is gone!! quite simple......isn't it !!!!!!!

Whoever wrote this article was blowing cigaret smoke out their #$%$ I get that most of these pieces are just filler content but at least they could kinda know what they are talking about. Oh, a bunch of science geeks at a university spent all kinds of grant money (tax dollars) to tell us that alcohol makes cigarettes taste good. Makes me feel smarter just for not have gone to that university. Do I really have to say that any food to different people may taste good or not and they will have the same kind of variances when it comes to how they enjoy their cigarette after a particular food. Annoys me just knowing this was a study.

If you want to quit smoking, dont hang out with smokers. Kinda like rehab. If its not there , you cant use it.

No one with an I.Q. over 20 would even consider sucking toxic chemicals into their lungs...and for all those who love to blow second-hand smoke in people's faces in front of skytrain stations, entrances to retail stores and just about everywhere else people have to pass by and get a whiff of your toxic shit - shove it up you #$%$
