Cyber Love: Data, A Love Story: How I Gamed Online Dating to Meet My Match by Amy Webb (Dutton)
Like so many heartbroken women before her, thirtysomething author Amy Webb turned to online dating to find a husband-and yes, it was terrible. But then she decided to game the system. This took some subterfuge-she even pretended to be a man at one point-but it also prompted Webb to think about what she really wanted in a mate. Gentle Internet surfer, it worked. Data isn't so much a memoir as it is a guide to getting what you want using the web.

Motherly Love: With or Without You by Domenica Ruta (Spiegel & Grau)
Growing up, Domenica Ruta endured her mother's cocaine-fuelled binges and irrational rages. This true-life coming-of-age tale-the Massachusetts-born author's first-isn't for the faint of heart, but it will resonate deeply for those with painful family histories. In the end, Ruta acknowledges the heartbreaking contradiction that lies within her title: She cannot fail to love the woman she calls "more interesting than good."

Strange Love: The Last Girlfriend on Earth: And Other Love Stories by Simon Rich (Reagan Arthur)
Former SNL writer Simon Rich's quirky book of stories, which in one tale chronicles the pitfalls of being set up with a grumpy female troll-yes, troll-won't make you cry Notebook-style (or groan for that matter), but it will make you reconsider the well-worn subject matter of love. A victory for the award-winning humourist, and one that even the aforementioned troll would have to concede.
